Garden Bioblitz

GardenBioBlitz 2016In 2012, the first ever national Garden Bioblitz event happened in the UK, run by myself and several other wildlife enthusiasts who met via social media.

The aims of the event were to get people to look a bit more closely at the wildlife in their garden, to enjoy finding out which species are living on their doorstep, and to hopefully encourage them to do more to support garden wildlife.

In 2013, the event ran over the weekend of 1st to 2nd June and was a huge success, even featuring on Springwatch and in BBC Wildlife Magazine! Hundreds of people took part from all across the UK, and over 22,000 records were uploaded of an incredible 2,400+ species.

The Garden Bioblitz is still going strong, and you can find out more about the event on our website at www.gardenbioblitz.org or see this year’s latest records at the Garden Bioblitz info centre. Or why not have a read of the blog that started it all off at ‘An Urban Bioblitz‘.

We really hope that everyone who takes part has fun, enjoys discovering their wildlife and perhaps even learns something new!
